KEY FEATURES
The following are the key features of the 3-years Diploma in Basic Education Programme
- It is a 3-year semester programme, spanning six semesters with teacher-trainees earning a Diploma.
- It will enable teacher-trainees who graduate with a diploma to upgrade themselves to B.Ed. degree level in any relevant tertiary institution.
- It will establish a judicious balance between theoretical knowledge and teaching skills.
- It will train teachers to be facilitators of learning.
- It will provide teachers who are creative researchers in the classroom i.e. solving problems through action research.
- The “out” component of the programme has a duration of 16 weeks (one semester).
- The programme is intended to support and monitor teacher-trainees’ performance at college, and during school-based study.

COURSE PROCESSES
Method of Teaching: Teaching strategies which give priority to problem-solving, decision making, critical and reflective thinking will be adapted. Student-centred and mentoring approaches will be used in some cases. In very few cases the lecture method or unilateral interaction approach will be adopted Special emphasis will be placed on practical and tutorial sessions.
