The training stretches across a maximum period of 18 months for regular career course (RCC) officer cadets and 6 months for the short service and special duties commission (SSC/SD) officer cadets. The Regular Career Course consists of four (4) terms, with each geared towards a particular objective. There are intermittent vacation breaks only for RCC officer cadets. Term One (1) and Two (2) consists of Basic Military Training known as the Standard Military Course (SMC) Phase, this phase consists of both physical and academic courses such as:
Physical Training
Map Reading and Navigation
Administration and Morale
Tactics
Fundamental Officer Training
Ranks and Insignia
Skill at Arms
Military Law
Signals and Voice Procedure
Term Three (3) and Four (4) are known as the Regular Career Course (RCC) phase, and here cadets are taught on the detailed and Arm specific training. This phase is a buildup on what was done in the Standard Military Course phase. It is therefore important for cadets not to forget anything that was taught in the Standard Military Course phase. A few additions will be made to the courses in the Standard Military Course. Some of the courses are:
Leadership

It is essential for a cadet to pass every subject in order to continue with the training at a pass mark of 60% or better for every term
Once a potential cadet enters the Ghana Military Academy for training, there are so many things he/she should prepare for. Life in academy is very different, strenuous and fast moving, it is only a sense of purpose that keeps you going at most times. Regardless of the pressure and high demands of the cadet lines (training accommodation unit), a cadet is expected to exhibit enthusiasm and take close interest in the standards stated below;
General Physical Fitness (The fitness of every cadet will be extremely tested in an effort to ensure that only fit Officers are churned out into the Ghana Armed Forces). Ghana Armed Forces Training Schools
