Lancaster University Ghana LUG Foundation Programme Courses

Course Structure 
The Programme comprises three terms (trimesters) of nine weeks’ teaching, an assessment week, and a study break in between the trimesters. The modules taught are conducted in English, and there are no prerequisites.
Business, Law & Social Sciences and Computing sub-stream
Trimester 1 modules
  •   English for Academic Purposes
•   Foundation Maths
•   Digital Information Skills
*All three modules are compulsory.

Trimester 2 modules

  •   Critical Thinking, Research & Academic Writing A
•   Innovative Management & Leadership
•   Project Management
*All three modules are compulsory.

Trimester 3 modules*

Stream-specific electives
•   Introduction to Management Accounting
•   Introduction to Computer Programming
•   Fundamentals of Information Systems
•   Introduction to Marketing
•   Introduction to Economics
•   Legal Perspectives
•   Politics & Society
*Apart from Critical Thinking, Research & Academic Writing B, which is compulsory for all students in Trimester 3, two more stream-specific electives from the above list need to be chosen.
Engineering sub-stream
*All modules are compulsory

Critical Thinking, Research & Academic Writing B
The weekly timetable focuses on a combination of formal lectures, small-group tutorials/discussions, assignment sessions, and library and academic support workshops.

All modules are equally weighted, with progression from one trimester to the next. Completion of the Foundation Programme requires a pass mark of 50 per cent in each unit. Students who want to pursue a Law degree at Lancaster University require at least a grade “B” in Legal Perspectives and an overall average Foundation score of 70 per cent.
