UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES (SMHS)

  • 6-Year Medicine (MBChB) (This programme is for only WASSCE candidates with Elective Science subjects)
  • 6-Year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) (This programme is for only WASSCE candidates with Elective Science subjects)
  • 2/3-Year BSc (Nurse Anaesthesia) ( For only RGN(Diploma), RGN(BSc Nursing), or Advanced Diploma in Nurse Anaesthesia)

There will be interviews for all candidates (Diploma Holders) scheduled for Friday, 6th July, 2020 at the Tamale Campus.

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES (SAHS)

  • 4-Year BSc (Community Nutrition) (This is a science-based programme for WASSCE holders). Home Economics candidates are also eligible to apply.
  • 4-Year BSc (Nursing) (for WASSCE holders) Candidates with business subjects are advised not to apply for Nursing. Only Pure Science, Agricultural Science, Arts or Home Economics candidates are eligible to apply
  • 4-Year BSc (Midwifery) (for WASSCE holders) Candidates with Business subjects are advised not to apply. Only Pure Science, Agricultural Science, Arts or Home Economics candidates are eligible to apply.
  • 2/3-Year BSc (Nursing) (for SRN / RGN(Diploma) holders)
  • 3-Year BSc (Nursing) programme (for holders of Community Health Nursing or Nurse Assistant Clinical with six (6) credits in WASSCE results (Three core subjects – English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and three (3) other elective subjects.
  • 2-Year BSc (Midwifery) (for holders of Diploma in Midwifery)
  • 3-Year BSc (Midwifery) programme (for holders of certificates in midwifery)
  • 3-YearBSc (Midwifery) programme (for holders of diploma in Registered General Nursing certificates)
  • 3-Year BSc (Midwifery) programme (for holders of Community Health Nursing or Nurse Assistant Clinical with six (6) credits in WASSCE results (Three core subjects – English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and three (3) other elective subjects
  • 3-Year BSc (Nurse Practitioner) (For only holders of Diploma in Nursing certificates). (WASSCE holders are advised not to apply for this programme)

Holders of Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery would be required to pass an examination to be conducted by the University scheduled for Wednesday, 4th July, 2020 at the Tamale Campus.

  • 6-Year Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS.D)

Admission / Entry Requirement

Applicants to the 6-Year Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS.D) degree must have either:

a) Credit in the THREE WASSCE core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits in THREE WASSCE electives: Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics).

OR

b) Graduates of allied disciplines such as Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology etc. and candidates with GCE ‘A’ level with minimum of credit passes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in addition to the above 5 “O” level 5 credit passes including Mathematics, English in maximum of 2 sittings, may enter the Programme in Year Two after passing an assessment examination and interview

OR

c) Holders of Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Diploma and HND in Science Laboratory Technology that have at least 6 WASSCE/SSSCE credit passes) above may enter the Programme in Year Two after passing an assessment examination and interview.

d) Top-Up Programme for2-Years into MLS.D (Fee Paying only)

Graduates with Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science may enter the Programme in Year 5 (2 years duration) after passing an assessment examination and interview.

Interviews for holders of Diploma/Degree for top-up in Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLSD) will be conducted on Wednesday, July 4, 2020

School of Allied Health Sciences

a. MSc./M.Phil. in Community Health and Development (Modular)

The MSc programme comprises 10 modules including (9 taught courses, dissertation and one module of field attachment). All the modules are compulsory and there is an examination at the end of each module. Field visits are also part of most of the taught modules.

A student may take all the modules continuously or break the modules to his/her convenience. He/she will then have to take the modules with another year group or when a re-take is being organized. When a student completes all the modules and has spent 4 months working on a dissertation of 20,000 words, he/she is awarded an MSc. The MPhil programme comprises 12 modules including field placement and graduate seminars and the student would spend 9 months working on a thesis of 37,500 words. An MSc. would last one year and MPhil two years when taken continuously.

The maximum duration allowable for students taking the modules intermittently either for M.Sc. or MPhil is three years. Where a student is unable to finish his/her studies by the end of the stipulated period, the student will have to apply for extension and register with the new fees.

b. MSc. Public Health Nutrition – Modular

c. M.Phil. in Public Health Nutrition – Modular

The MSc/MPhil Public Health Nutrition (PHN) programme aims to produce a cadre of practitioners and health professionals for teaching and research in academic institutions and for positions of professional leadership in health and health-related agencies where research is an important function. The MSc/MPhil. PHN graduates will be equipped to advocate better health through diet and nutrition, promote health and reduce the risk of diet-related diseases through educational and environmental approaches to improve nutrition and physical activity.

The MSc. programme covers 16 months duration whilst the MPhil takes two (2) academic years to complete.

d.       MPhil Chemical Pathology

To be admitted into MPhil Chemical Pathology, a candidate must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree in the Biomedical Sciences or related areas from a recognized University
  2. Submit an official transcript of academic records
  3. Submit three (3) referee’s reports, two of which must be from somebody who is familiar with the applicant’s academic work.
  4. Submit a 3-5 page research proposal of his/her intended research area.
  5. Pass an interview
  6. Demonstrate evidence of financial capability
  7. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the School of Graduate Studies

e.      PhD Chemical Pathology

To be admitted into PhD Chemical Pathology a candidate must:

  1. Have an Masters degree or its equivalent in Chemical Pathology, Biomedical Sciences or related areas from a recognized university
  2. Submit an official transcript of academic records
