St. Monica’s Secondary School History

St. Monica’s Secondary School History – Check Below:
St Monica’s Senior High School popularly known as “Munche” is an Anglican Institution founded in 1946. The school was initially started in Cape Coast by the sisters of the Order of the Holy Paraclete (OHP). Due to the lack of land for expansion, the school was relocated to Asante-Mampong on a parcel of land given to the sisters by Nana Osei Bonsu I of Mampong. St Monica’s Senior High School was started with 16 girls and became the first girls’ Secondary School in Ashanti and the Northern sector of the Gold Coast (now Ghana).
Students’ welfare, development and freedom have been on the fore front of the school’s agenda since its inception. The Local SRC of St Monica’s was formally restructured and re-organized in 2007 with Mr. Sampson Gyasi as the Local Patron. He worked assiduously until his appointment as the Assistant Headmaster of Serwaa Nyarko SHS in 2015. Mr. Barnabas Addai Amanfo was appointed to occupy the position of Local Patron and has since steered the affairs of the Council competently. The support enjoyed by the Local Executives from our Local Patron and the Headmistress has been enormous.

The St Monica’s SRC has blossom right from the beginning and is now one of the most vibrant local SRCs in the ARSRC. The local council has nurtured students to occupy regional positions such as Secretary, Vice President, and Trustees. The Literary Group (L.G) of Munche is a force to reckon with when it comes to Regional competitions and performances. The Munche LG has chalked successes and won prestigious awards at various competitions organized by the ARSRC.
So far so good, the SRC of St Monica has undertaken some vital projects in the interest of students. For instance, the SRC has put up a building complex comprising a barbering shop, a supermarket and a well-furnished office. This was done to lessen the burden on students to move to town for simple hair-cut and shopping. The shops invariably serve as an income generating enterprise for the Local Council. The Local SRC also took initiative to change all chalk boards in the classrooms into marker boards to promote effective teaching and learning. The SRC also financed the construction of a six-spaced garage for the school. The SRC has again procured 20 tables and 55 chairs for use at the students’ canteen for our ladies to feel comfortable during dinner.
Plans
The key goal of the Local SRC is to acquire a mini-bus to ease the transportation challenge that faces the school. This is not all, the Local SRC intends to renovate the dilapidated basketball court into a modern multi-purpose court. The local council has also resolved to institute an “SRC Awards Night” to honor deserving staff and students who excel in their various duties and endeavors. The Munche SRC plans on doing more for the students and the school at large.
