Current University Operations
Lancaster University in Ghana was established in 2013 with over 100 students enrolling in the University in its first year of operations. The campus has been running in a city campus in the Accra suburb of East Legon. The University commenced its operations out of a building on Jungle Road known as our foundation campus. The University then expanded into the A & C business centre 100 metres from the Jungle Road site. The University proposition in East Legon is quite popular with students with access to many restaurants, gyms & sporting facilities, bank, telecom providers, supermarket amongst other amenities
New Campus Proposal
We are seeking to create a truly world-class and innovative teaching, research and business-engagement environment to cater for the future needs of students, staff and community. The University in Ghana, in a short period of time, has built a great reputation in the private university tertiary education sector. We foster a culture of bringing world-class academics, excellent students and innovative companies into a community where knowledge is created and exchanged. The management team of the University understands the importance of creating a physical environment, which supports such a community, a community where creativity and ambition are fostered. This exciting new campus will form part of the drive to position Lancaster University in Ghana as one of Africa’s best private universities.
The University campus was proposed for the following reasons –
• 1. Expansion of current course provision. New programmes relating to engineering and health sciences will be introduced
• 2. Opportunity to offer students accommodation facilities within campus development
• 3. Purpose built facilities suited to delivering high quality degree programmes in Ghana
• 4. Facilities will be built to lower current operating costs with specific sustainability and green campus design
The University’s 1st Phase of develop will feature a modern university campus design providing students with –
•1. State of the art lecture theatres, tutorial rooms and a moot court
•2. 200 seater lecturer theatre
•3. Engineering and Computing labs
•4. Learning common featuring a learning zone, quiet study area, and library facilities
•5. Careers Zone, Student Support facilities and a Health Clinic
•6. Student recreation area, café and dining facilities
•7. 5 aside football pitch and gym
•8. Welcome centre including the admissions and recruitment department, registry and fee collection team
•9. Meeting rooms, conference facilities and specific suites for postgraduate study
The University campus master plan will enable to the student population grow to a total of 4,000 students offering a full comprehensive course offering with a total of 1,000 bed hostel facilities.
It will be noted that with a high number of international students, comprising between 30 to 40 percent of annual enrolments look for accommodation facilities within the University campus.
The University will be able to increase its overall enrolments into the University as currently dealing with 3rd party hostel providers is providing a negative experience to the overall University student experience.
Quality accommodation will overall improve the student experience at Lancaster University Ghana.
