Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) Programmes

B.TECH. IN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING (2-YEARS) – (Morning /Evening/Weekend)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • HND Automotive Engineering, HND Mechanical Engineering (Plant and Production Options) with at least Second (2nd) Class Lower Division plus a minimum of one (1) year post-HND relevant industrial experience in an automobile or related field. Or
  • City and Guilds of London Institute (Part III) with Licentiateship  Or
  • KNUST Diploma plus a minimum of one (1) year post-Diploma relevant industrial experience in an automobile or related field.

B.TECH IN TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING (2-YEARS) – (Morning/Evening/Weekend)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduates of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science   and students transferring from similar programmes ran at other accredited/recognized institutions with a minimum of Class Lower Division plus at least one (1) year working/industrial experience. HND Computer Science   certificate holders without appropriate course content in Electrical/Electronic technology in their programme will be required to do the requisite bridging courses. Or
  • Applicants with Diploma in Electrical and Electronic related courses from recognized institutions with a minimum of one (1) year industrial working experience. Or
  • Foreign students with qualifications equivalent to Ghana HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering certificate.

B.TECH. IN PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT (2-YEARS) (Morning /Evening/Weekend)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • HND graduates in Purchasing and Supply, HND Building Technology and students transferred from similar programmes run at other accredited institutions with a minimum of Second (2nd) Class Lower Division plus at least one (1) year relevant post qualification experience. Or
  • Applicants with Level 4 Foundation Diploma of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS-UK) qualifications or equivalent of Chartered Institute of Builders, UK may apply. Or
  • HND graduates with passes lower than the minimum 2nd Class Lower Division requirement indicated above but have worked in relevant fields for at least four (4) years may apply. Such applicants will be admitted based on interview performance. Or
  • HND graduates from other fields or disciplines with a qualification not lower than the minimum 2nd Class Lower Division requirement with at least four (4) years working experience in procurement related fields.

B.TECH. IN ACCOUNTING (2-YEARS) (Morning /Evening/Weekend)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduates of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting and students transferring from similar programmes ran at other accredited/recognized institutions with a minimum of Second (2nd) Class Lower Division plus at least one (1) year relevant post qualification experience. Or
  • Applicants with Part Three (III) qualification of ICA-GH and ACCA or CIMA examinations. Or
  • HND Graduates with passes lower than the minimum Second (2nd) Class Lower Division requirement indicated above but have worked in relevant fields for at least five (5) years may apply. Such applicants will be admitted based on interview performance. Or

HND graduates from other fields or disciplines with a qualification lower than the minimum  Second (2nd) Class Lower Division requirement with at least five (5) years working experience in accounting related fields.

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HND PROGRAMMES

    • SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS
      • SSCE Candidates: Credit passes in five (5) subjects comprising three(3) core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies/Science plus two (2) relevant elective subjects
      • WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes in five (5) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies/Science plus two (2) relevant elective subjects.
    • GBCE(formerly RSA) APPLICANTS

Six (6) GBCE) passes including English Language, Business Mathematics, and Integrated Science/Social Studies plusthree relevant electives.

    • GBCE/ ‘O’/ A-LEVEL/RSA III/ABCE APPLICANTS

Five (5) GBCE passes or Five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes (including English Language and Mathematics) plus at least two (2) GCE ‘A’ level/ABCE passes.

    • HND Environmental Management and Technology Applicants

Five (5) GBCE passes or five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes (including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) plus at least two (2) GCE ‘A’ Level ABCE passes (including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry).

    • APPLICANTS FROM TECHNICAL SCHOOLS

Applicants must have passes in six (6) subjects including English Language and Mathematics and Integrated Science plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

    • DBS APPLICANTS

Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics plus at least three (3) passes in relevant DBS subjects.

    • TEACHER’S CERTIFICATE.

Applicant must have Three- Year Post-Secondary Certificate or Four Year Certificate ‘A’ with a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience, plus three (3) GCE O-Level or SSSCE/WASSCE passes in relevant elective subjects.

    • MATURE APPLICANTS
      • Applicants must be least 25 years old,
      • Have five (5) GCE O-Level or GBCE or SSSCE or WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics or five(5) passes in Diploma in Business Studies (DBS),
      • Have at least two (2) years working experience, and
      • Must pass a written test in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge to be conducted by the Koforidua Polytechnic.
    • HND Environmental Management and Technology Applicants
      • Must be twenty-five (25) years old
      • Have five (5) GCE “O” Level or GBCE or SSSCE or WASSCE credit passes (including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry)
      • Have two (2) years of relevant industrial working experience and
      • Must pass a written test in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge to be conducted by the Koforidua Polytechnic.
    • OTHER APPLICANTS

Apart from the general HND entry requirements stated above, applicants with the following qualifications may apply for consideration to these HND programmes:

    HND Secretaryship & Management Studies

    • Five(5) passes in Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) Or
    • Diploma in Office Management (DOM) conducted by WAEC, plus four SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English Language and Mathematics and two other electives subjects. Credits will be an advantage, Or
    • Stenographer Certificate
  • HND Programmes in Engineering

    • Technician Certificate (at least Intermediate or a Craft Course) holders pluspasses inSSSCE/WASSCE English Language, Mathematics and Science. Or
    • Passes in the three (3) Pre-HND subjects (viz. English, Mathematics and Science) plus at least an Intermediate/Craft or Technician Certificate, Or
    • Technician Certificate Part II & III in CTC, MVT or MET, Or

Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD) in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or Construction.

The Technical Examination Unit (TEU) has changed the titles of the Intermediate Fashion Design & Textiles and Cookery 812/1 to Certificate II in Fashion Design and Textiles and Catering Certificate II respectively and students who will be successful in all the courses at their final examination shall qualify for direct admission into relevant HND programmes. The duration is (2) year

    • Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes (including English and Mathematics) Or
    • Four (4) GCE O-Level passes (including English Language and Mathematics) Or
    • Four (4) GBCE (RSA II) passes (including English Language &   Business Mathematics) Or
    • NACVET/NVTI Typist/ 2 or 3 passes in  Stenographer Certificate (for Secretarial option)
  2. DBS–(Statistics and Information Technology Options)
    • Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes (including English ,Mathematics plus elective Mathematics or Physics) Or
    • Four (4) GCE O-Level passes (including English Language and Mathematics additional  Mathematics or Physics)
  3. Certificate II In Fashion Design and Textiles:-2-Years
    • Passes in SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE/’O’Level subjects.
    • Communication and any other pass, Or
    • N.V.T.I Fashion Certificate Grade I or Grade II or equivalent.
    • JHS Graduates with  knowledge and skills in Dressmaking
  4.  Advanced Fashion Design and Textiles:-2-Year
    • Holders of City and Guilds Certificate in Fashion & Designing (Dressmaking and Tailoring)  Or
    • Intermediate Dressmaking/Fashion Certificate plus at least one (1) year relevant practical experience Or
    • Four (4) passes in SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including English Language , Mathematics and any other elective subjects plus  basic knowledge and skills in Dressmaking  Or
    • Four (4) passes in GCE ‘O’Level including English Language Mathematics plus knowledge in Dressmaking.
  5. Construction Technician Certificate (CTC) Part I
    • Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Technical Drawing.
    • Technical Construction option Subjects: Craft (B/C, C/J, P/D, and Plumbing) and Advanced (B/C, C/J,                    P/D, and Plumbing.)
    • Passes in General Course in Construction (GCC)
  6. Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) Part I
    • Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Science
    • Technical  Option Subjects :Engineering Crafts, Intermediate General Engineering (GE), MECP
  7. Motor Vehicle Technician (MVT) Part I
    • Four (4)) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Science
    • Technical Option Subjects: MVM, Intermediate General Engineering (GE)
  8. Electrical Engineering Technician (EET) Part I
    • Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English, Mathematics and Science and any two of the following – Applied Electricity/Electronics, Physics, Mathematics.
  9. Catering Certificate II (formerly Cookery 812/1)- 2years
    • Passes in relevant SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE/ GCE O-Level subjects.
    • NVTI Grade II or JHS Certificate with working experience.

Access Course (Pre–HND) Admissions

The Pre-HND (Access Course) is now opened to SSSCE/WASSCE holders with Science Background who wish to pursue HND Programmes in either Science or Engineering.
The National Board for Professional and Technicians Examinations (NABPTEX) has designed an access course for SSSCE/WASSCE holders who could not obtain the required grades for direct entry into tertiary institutions and also for Technical/Vocational Institute graduates into HND Programmes. NABPTEX will conduct a final external examination after which successful applicants shall proceed to enroll in the under listed HND PROGRAMMES:
AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES:

  • Electrical/Electronics Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Building Technology
  • Hospitality Management

Duration – One (1) academic year (i.e. Two (2) semesters of 16 weeks per semester)
Note: Candidates would be required to obtain at least 50% in each of the three (3) subjects namely: English Language, Mathematics and Science.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have a minimum qualification of Intermediate or Craft Certificate or its equivalent from a recognized examinations body. With regard to Hospitality Management, applicants must have Cookery 812/2.

Professional Programmes

The Polytechnic has re-introduced the following professional programmes to be run on WEEKENDS on the main campus of the polytechnic.
AVAILABLE COURSES

  • ICA (Ghana):-Levels I –IV
  • ACCA(UK):-Levels I –IV
  • CIB(Ghana):-Levels I –III
  • CIPS(UK):- Levels I –III

To qualify to write any of the professional examinations above, the candidate SHOULD first register as a student of an appropriate professional body.
Entry Requirements: The basic educational qualifications include:
PART I:
REGULAR ENTRY: 5 GCE ‘O’ Level credits or 5 RSA II or 5 GBCE or
5 WASSCE passes including English Language and Mathematics. PLUS any of the following:

  • 3 ‘A’ Level passes with at least a grade ‘D’ in one subject and excluding General Paper Or
  • 3 RSA III or LCCI  III or 3 ABCE or DBS in relevant subject areas Or
  • HND in relevant subject areas Or
  • Post- Secondary Certificate

OR

  • A very good first degree in a relevant subject area from a recognized tertiary institution Or
  • 6 Passes at WASSCE with at least aggregate 20 including English  and Mathematics
  • A Masters degree in a relevant subject  area from a recognized tertiary institution Or
  • 6 GBCE with at least aggregate 20 and including  English  and Mathematics
  • Mature Applicants should be 25years of age minimum and must possess the relevant basic academic qualification.

EXEMPTIONS
Exemptions may be granted in appropriate papers at Levels I &II to deserving applicants with relevant qualifications.
Study time: Friday 5.30pm – 8.30pm
Duration:   Four (4) months for every level
Saturday 6.00am- 5.00pm:
Sunday 6.00am-2.00pm
 

Certificate Programme in Small Scale Business Management programme

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants with a minimum of Junior High School Certificate
  • Mature Applicants must be at least twenty-five (25) years old and must have relevant working experience.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME: Three (3) months (Saturdays only)
NB: The Polytechnic will commence running its Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) (Accounting and Secretarial options) on Weekends with effect from the 2013/2014 academic year. Applicants interested in the said DBS Weekend Session programmes should apply for consideration.
