KNUST Jubilee Mall

A new shopping mall has been inaugurated to promote commercial activities at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The Jubilee Mall, which cost US$4 million, was funded by the HFC Bank to serve the needs of the university and its neighbouring communities as well as the general public.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, said the construction of the mall was a sign of commitment and cordial relationship between the university and HFC to promote business in the commercial area of the university.
He said the HFC Bank was committed and concerned with private partners in the development of the university, especially in the area of infrastructural development.
He lauded the enviable contribution of the HFC Bank towards social responsibility and national development in the areas of promotion of education and other social amenities.
Dr Asare Akuffo, the Managing Director of HFC Bank, said the company was much interested in the development of education hence the construction of the mall for the benefit of the students and people in the community.
He added his voice to calls on the private sector to show much interest in the development of the university by supporting it to train students in entrepreneurship development to create jobs for themselves and others.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. W.O. Ellis, said most of the international university campuses around the globe, especially in North America, Europe and South Africa, were complete communities with several amenities, including a police stations, malls and other social amenities.
He said the opening of the mall would bring more meaning to the growth and concept of a university and bring more life and vibrancy to commercial activities on the campus.
