THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Change is inevitable and growth is the surest sign of life. The then Faculty of Engineering has been growing over the years and now has over 2500 students. Now a premier engineering faculty in the country and boasting 10 programs under its wings, it was only natural to unclip its wings and allow it to fly to higher heights. The faculty of engineering is no more; join me in welcoming you into the first College of Engineering and Technology (COETEC) in the country. Today, the College produces graduates that are more sought after than those from competing universities in the job market, according to research done by independent bodies. Transforming the faculty into a college would accord it greater capability and freedom to properly fulfill these roles.
The College is located at the main campus of JKUAT, 35km North-East of Nairobi on the Nairobi-Thika Highway, and about 10kms from Thika town. The College is the first one within JKUAT, and comprises of three schools (with seven academic Departments hosting eleven programmes),and Engineering workshops. The four schools are namely:
School of Civil, Environmental and Geospatial Engineering;
School of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering,
School of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Materials Engineering and
School of Biosystems and Environmental Engineering
Its programs attract the best students with the highest cut-off points when it comes to JAB undergraduate admission. It is also mentoring, under the university, several technological institutes and university colleges among them are Kimathi University College and Technology, Mombasa Polytechnic University College and Multimedia University College.
The vision of College emphasizes greater research and production of innovations that will positively impact our society and in the process produce transformational leaders. This is expected to uplift the college internationally and be a big name in research and innovation globally, in addition to training.
In tune with Kenya’s vision 2030 and global sustainable agenda, COETEC has enabled the expansion of access to engineering education, training and technology, as well as availed cutting edge engineering and technological community based solutions to Kenya and beyond.
