There’s a whole bunch of things you have to know. Like which schools even offer a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, how long it takes, whether you can even afford it…all of that stuff.
But as always, you can count on us to bring you the breakdown of the stuff!

LANCASTER UNIVERSITY GHANA. LOCATION, EAST LEGON, ACCRA.

Three year undergraduate programme. For now, fees are $9000 a year. Students have to do a foundation course. Note that although students receive a UK administered degree, the law programme meets all the requirements of the Board of Legal Education in Ghana, so the graduates are not required to take the conversion course at The Ghana School of Law (Makola) unlike other external law graduates.

WISCONSIN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LOCATION, NORTH LEGON, ACCRA

There are two programmes- a four year undergraduate programme and a three year post graduate programme. The undergrad programme is full time.
There’s also the postgraduate program where the students have evening lectures. You must have a degree or better (no HND or lower).

Process: You can either apply online or buy application forms. All applicants will be required to go through entrance exams and an interview. After admission comes registration and payment of school fees.

KWAME NKRUMAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE.LOCATION: KUMASI, ASHANTI REGION.

KNUST has three categories of the LL.b programme.

  1. Full time four year programme. Students with WASSCE certificate who studied either General Arts, Science or Business can apply. Also mature students who are 25 years and above can apply with GCE ‘A’ level with credits in at least 5 ‘O’ level subjects.
  2. Full time three year programme. Candidates with a first degree in any discipline other than law. Shortlisted candidates will be required to take an entrance exam and pass an interview.
  3. Part time four year programme. Candidate who hold a first degree in any discipline other than law can apply. They will also have to write an exam and pass an interview.

KAAF UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LOCATION: ACCRA CENTRAL, NEAR THE MINISTRIES.

The school runs a four year law program for applicants with WASSCE certificate and a three year law program for applicants who are applying with a degree from any recognized University. It is open to both Ghanaians and foreigners.
Fees: WASSCE applicants, 3150 cedis for first semester, 3000 cedis for second semester.
Postgraduate degree; 3500 cedis for first semester, 3000 cedis for second semester. Foreign students; $2000 for undergraduate students, $2400$ for post graduate students.
Students are required to pay 150 cedis for a mandatory medical examination.

UNIVERSITY OF GHANA. LOCATION: LEGON, GREATER ACCRA REGION

Post-first degree law
Qualification: The minimum entry qualification is a Second Class (Lower Division) Degree in any discipline from a recognised University (i.e. Universities recognised and/or accredited by the National Accreditation Board of Ghana).
Qualified short-listed applicants will be expected to take a selection examination and interview at later dates.

Undergraduate law
Good results in the WASCCE. Credit passes in three elective subjects and credit passes in English, core maths and science (for science students) or social studies for non science students.Its not limited to only General Arts students but students with Business, Science and Visual arts backgrounds can also apply.

ZENITH UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LOCATION, BEHIND THE TRADE FAIR, LA, ACCRA

The school runs both LL.B and Diploma in Law. The Bachelor of Law degree is actually run by the University of London but offered at the Zenith University College. The school fees are structured in such a way that the student pays both the University of London. The school offers both a two year program and a three year program for the LL.b but students who wish to enter Ghana School of Law are strongly advised to do the three year course.
Fees: For the 2016/2017 academic year, the total external fees for the two or three-year programme was between £6,000 and £7,500 so it might increase for the next academic year.
How To Apply: Forms are sold throughout the year. The application forms cost 50 cedis. Deadline for submission of forms is latest by 7th September each year because the forms have to reach the University of London by 17th September.
Note that students receive a UK Administered Law Degree and to enter Ghana School of Law, you still have to do a six month conversion course to learn some aspects of Ghanaian Law which were not taught in the University.

CENTRAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LOCATION: LAW FACULTY LOCATED AT THE PERMANENT CAMPUS IN MIOTSO, NEAR DAHWENYA, GREATER ACCRA REGION.

Full time four year course (Undergraduate Degree)
Students who studied Science, General Arts or Business can apply with either WASSCE, SSSCE or GCE “A” and “O” level certificates. People with HND can also apply.
Post graduate course
The school runs two sessions for the postgraduate course. There is the three year course where students have evening lectures and the four year course which is weekend classes only. In either case, applicants must hold a first degree in any discipline from an accredited university. They will write and pass an entrance exam and an interview.
Fees: For Ghanaian students, the school fees is currently GH S 4135 and for freshers, it is GHS 4335.

 UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST. LOCATION, CAPE COAST, CENTRAL REGION

Only a postgraduate course is run and it is strictly fee-paying. Applicants must have obtained a good first degree in any field of study from a recognized University with at least a 2nd Class Lower Division. All candidates will be interviewed and in addition, Ghanaian applicants will have to write an entrance exam before the interview.  Ghanaian applicants should also have completed their national service and those who are workers must show their availability by show of release letter from employers; and ability to pay.

MOUNTCREST UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LOCATION, READWIDE BUILDING, 12 ABLADE ROAD, KANDA, ACCRA

The school runs both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.
For the undergraduate course, applicants with WASSCE results, mature students with GCE ‘O’ levels , SSCE or WASSCE results can apply. Law students from other universities can also apply for a transfer toMountcrest.
For the postgraduate course, any person with a good undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline from any recognized university can apply. People with HND in a law related program can also apply.

Note that the National Accreditation Board in 2016 issued a directive preventing the Mountcrest University College from admitting new students. The school sued the National Accreditation Board and the matter is currently pending in court.

KINGS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. LOCATION, APLAKU HILLS, WEIJA, ACCRA

Kings University College is affiliated to London Metropolitan University and offers a four year programme. Students can apply with the following:

  1. Senior High School Certificate Examination (SSSCE/ WASSCE)
  2. GCE “O”Level or “A”Level
  3. Mature Students Examination
  4. Part Qualified Professional Certificates
  5. Tertiary Level Diplomas
  6. HND

Mature students must pass an examination and interview conducted by the school before being given admission.

GIMPA runs 3 LL.b programmes
The Day Programme
This is a full time four year programme designed for students with WASSCE and SSSCE results. Both Science and Non-Science students can apply.

The Modular Programme
