COMPUTERIZED SCHOOL SELECTION AND PLACEMENT SYSTEM (CSSPS)

GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION OF SCHOOLS FOR PLACEMENT (2015)

As part of measures to ensure a smooth placement of qualified BECE candidates for 2014 the Ghana Education Service (GES) has put in place the following arrangements for the informat on of parents/guardians/candidates and the general public.

A.Grouping of Schools

All second cycle institutions have been grouped into OPTIONS as follows:

a.Public Senior High Schools: three (1) groups namely Options 1, 2 and 3

b.Public Technical/Vocational Institutions (Option 4)

c.Private Schools -Senior High/Technical Vocational Institutions (Option 5)

There are second cycle institutions that have facilities for special education for the physically challenged and Visually-Impaired Candidates.

B.Before Selection of Schools and Programmes

Before making any selection of schools and programmes offered in these schools, parents are advised to note the following:

a.Parents who want their wards to attend day schools are to choose day schools only or schools that provide day facilities nearer their place of residence.

b.All schools selected (1st to 4th) are considered in placement of candidates.

C.Conditions for selection of schools

Candidates with guidance and assistance from parents/guardians and school authorities:

a.Must choose four (4th) schools (1st – 4th choice).

b.Must select programmes and accommodation in each school of choice.

c.Must not choose one school twice.

d.May select all choices from Option 1.

e.Should not select more than two (2) school from Option 2.

f.Candidates cannot choose more than one (1) school in Option 3.

g.All candidates opting for Senior High Schools (Grammar Type) may select in addition to their school choices a maximum of two (2) Technical/Vocational Institutes.

h.Candidates who desire to pursue purely Technical Programmes may select all 1st – 4th schools from Technical/Vocational Option.

i.Candidates who desire to pursue courses in private schools may decide to choose all 1st – 4th schools from Private Schools Option.

j.Candidates have the liberty to 1st – 4th choice from a mix of Options 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

NOTE: Regardless of the options chosen, candidates must arrange their choices in order of preference.
